I took Paul to the doctor today. It was a fasting appointment with complete blood work and also required an urine sample. Paul can't stand up on his artificial limb without something to hold on to and even then very briefly because he gets dizzy. Skipping the gruesome details with all the help my 148 pound 5'6" could give his 6' 220 pounds he ended up with urine all over himself, me, the floor, and I broke my back catching a fall and finally dragging him safely into his wheel chair.
Age and disability are so hard on human dignity and so diminishes the spirit. His attitude amazes me however, he just smiled and thanked me for my help profusely while I was trying my best to hide the tears. That's what keeps me going and what makes it worthwhile to care for my own in the older generation instead of shuffling off to a nursing home.
Thing is, I am becoming the older generation and when I look at the current crop of politicians it scares me to death as a leading member of the "boomer" generation. We are dust to them.
