I heard from my friend Judy today. Judy is a musician, songwriter and recently had a family loss. It occurred to me that in the city that Judy lives in, Indianapolis, my favorite ever American Politician gave a speech back in 1968 shortly after the murder of Martin Luther King. Robert Kennedy had been advised by the Indianapolis police to forgo his campaign trip there because they considered it dangerous. Undeterred Mr. Kennedy went before the potentially volatile crowd and part of what he said was this:
My favorite poet was Aeschylus. He once wrote: "Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, until, in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God."
What we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence and lawlessness, but is love and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country, whether they be white or whether they be black.
Where or where have politicians and leaders of this calibar gone?
The battle of hate versus love of good versus evil in many ways in my mind began when a Palestinian hotel worker murdered this man who taught gentleness and concern for others.
In recent news the Roman Catholic pope quoted a Byzantine Emperor saying that the Islamic religion was evil because its founder urged conversion by the sword/force/war. I had to shake my head that the leader of the largest religious organization in the Western World which the facts of history show has murdered in cold blood at least over 40, 000, 000 human beings merely because they disagreed with its theology. So have the many seceding Protestant Churches all of whom when given the power have persecuted freedom of thought. Now Muslims are proving the point of religious violence and the pope of course for political reasons has given a political apology of sorts saying "If" anyone is offended he is sorry."
I just want to know when the religions of the world of man all of them will start actually practicing their religions none of which condone violence and hate so passionately preached by those in religious and political power.
