Defenders: Shirkers: This & That.

I don't believe I am going to quote a Republican President but there is one named Calvin Coolidge that laid back New England lad from Vermont who said something very relevant to todays news in relation to
the the current relevations by Dana Priest of the Washington Post concerning the SHAMEFUL mistreatment of the military personnel wounded so brutally in Bush the Lessers War for Oil in Iraq.

Silent Cal as he was known wasn't a great talker so when he said something it was usually well worth listening to, it certainly is today.

Coolidge said, "That nation that Forgets it's Defenders will soon be Forgotten itself."

Its sad that in many ways that very necessary attitude of the military to get the job done and follow the Commander in Chief also alas often blinds it to the hypocricy of those who send them to do that job and how little they care for them or their families once that sacrifice has been made. LIke an injured race horse with a broken leg, it's JUST SHOOT THEM, bring more live bodies.

My Dad was a disabled Veteran and his employer who was basically a good and decent man thought it was perfectly honorable to deduct his Disability Pay from his salary and with a Straight Face at that. SHAMEFUL! What's New?

In the American Civil War in researching my ancestors with so many killed in that tragic conflict it became perfectly obvious that decent Americans citizens suffered most and gave most to preserve the wealth and privileges of those both North and South who brought the war into being basically over Economics involving human slavery. Except for a paltry Widow's Pension 21 years after that conflict those who Defended were Forgotten until their live bodies or that of their children and grandchildren were needed again to fight the Spanish American War (Also trumped up) and the First World War.

SOS as they say. What's New?
